It would be so much easier (for me at least) if all site designs were easy to *design*. I enjoy coding the website and making a template that works, not one that looks great.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE looking at good site designs but the problem for me, is that I just don’t seem to have that design flair inside of me.
There are people that can sit down at their machine, open Photoshop, and have a *great* looking site designed within 30 minutes. Not me. I can spend hours sitting in front of PS and never get anywhere…
I have some OK Ideas when I work with someone else, but they are always useless things, like “how about a really subtle grad there?” or “Some drop shadow would look good there”…
There aren’t that many sites out there that really make me think *WOW*, but when I find them I do like to sit back and just stare for a little bit.
Now that might sound strange, but I really like the satisfaction that comes from visiting a site that looks really good.
I have just started working with a designer to try and get some of my client sites looking a bit better, so hopefully, that will work. I show her the stuff I like, She makes something tailored to my needs.
I guess the real question is this…
Does a really aesthetically designed site get more repeat traffic than one not designed so carefully? Even if the ugly site has more content?
I wonder if there have been any studies done on this kind of thing?
If anyone knows of any, please let me know…
In the meantime, I guess I will just keep putting sites online, with lots of content... ; )
So, any ideas anyone?
